LaTex/PDF Lectures

by Matt Wand

This page describes a minimalist approach to using LaTeX and PDF

to make high quality electronic lectures and other presentations. It is geared towards running on the

Linux system in the School of Mathematics at UNSW. Modifications may be required for other systems.

This page is an early concrete outcome of the Computer Package Discussion Group.

Much of the information is conveyed via an example lecture. The final product (PDF file) is here.

It is recommended that you click through this now to see if it is the sort of thing that you'd like to do.

If you want to produce such lectures and presentations then....

Files that you need to download for general use are:

(Note that the colours in colourmacros.tex may be viewed here.)

Files that you need to reproduce the example lecture are:

The suggested strategy is to download all 5 of these files into the a single Linux directory and

then issue the commands:

If this leads to the same outcome as that obtained by clicking here

then you are now able to produce such PDF files by templating from examplec.tex.

There are lots of bells and whistles that can be added to these instructions.

For example, in Linux I centralise my `macro' files in a single directory so I don't

have to keep multiple copies of files like foils.cls, using the TEXINPUTS facility.

Another is conversion to 4-per-page format.

But I promised to be minimalist on this page!, so you can ask me if you

want to know about some of these extras.
