What We Offer

Summary of Services

Please remember that the following services are intended for postgraduates and Honours students. If you are an undergraduate, the undergrad association WUSA offers many similar services. (Plus a few extras!) Please visit their website for details.

Advocacy

If you want to appeal a mark, make a complaint, or deal with an academic grievance, WUPA's Advocacy Officer can provide you with confidential and independent advice on how to proceed.

The Advocacy Officer can help you fill out paperwork related to your appeal, assist in lodging a claim, and can attend meetings with you. (For more information and resources, please visit our advocacy page.)

This service is free, and is open to postgraduate and undergraduate students.

You can drop in to the Advocacy Office, no appointment necessary, on Tuesdays and Thursdays (10am–2.00 pm). Or contact the Advocacy Officer to make an appointment for a different time.

The University offers a free counselling service for students who feel sad, angry, or stressed about their life or their studies at Uni. You can make an appointment by calling 02 4221 3445, or just drop in to the Counselling Services on Level 3 of Building 11.

Activities and Outreach

WUPA organises social activities to help you meet your fellow postgraduates, and encourage you to make new friends. Most of our activities take place during the day (especially lunch times), but we do have some evening events as well.

Please see our Activities page for more details. You can receive alerts and reminders about upcoming activities by subscribing to our e-mail newsletter, WUPAnews.

Document Certification

WUPA offers document certification, also known as Justice of the Peace or notary service. If you need to provide a certified copy of a document, we can give you that certification.

This service is free.

Please contact the Operations Manager to make an appointment.

Legal Advice

WUPA offers free legal advice days each month. You can make an appointment to have a 15 minute session with a lawyer concerning any legal matter.

This service is free.

Please see our Activities page for details of when the next legal advice day is, and which times the lawyer is available. You can receive a reminder about this event by subscribing to our e-mail newsletter, WUPAnews.

Migration Advice

WUPA hold regular migration advice seminars, presented by registered migration agents. If you have any questions about migrating to Australia, how to apply for permanent residency, visas or similar matters, please come to our seminars. All seminars include question and answer sessions.

This service is free.

Please see our Activities page for more details. You can receive reminders about our migration seminars by subscribing to our e-mail newsletter, WUPAnews.

Publications

The Association has several publications, both print and electronic. We have a cross-disciplinary research magazine, Rhizome Magazine, as well as an electronic newsletter, WUPAnews.

Please see our Publications page for more details.
