Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme
The Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) is a supplementary tutorial assistance scheme for
Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in formal studies either full time or part time at the University of Wollongong.
The Scheme is funded by the Commonwealth Government.
ITAS tutoring can be conducted one on one or in small groups. Each student is allowed a maximum of 2 hours per subject, per week.
Extra hours apply for exam preparation. As the Scheme is supplementary only, you are required to attend normal subject lectures and tutorials as per the subject outline.
Am I Eligible?
To be eligible for supplementary tuition the applicant must be:
• Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, who identifies as such and is accepted in the community in which he/she lives or has lived;
• Enrolled in formal Education; and
• Assessed as requiring Supplementary tutorial Assistance in order to Achieve satisfactory Academic results.

You can apply for ITAS tutoring by completing an Application form which can be found at Woolyungah Indigenous Centre Reception or at the below link.

How can I submit my Application?
There are many options for submitting your application:
- You can lodge your form in person at reception in Woolyungah Indigenous Centre
- Scan and send your completed form to wic-enquiries@uow.edu.au
- Send the form to the ITAS Officer at the below address:

What will happen after I have submitted my application?
The ITAS Officer will endeavour to find a tutor for the subject you require assistance with. In some occasions this is not possible and you can help the process along by looking for a suitable tutor yourself. The tutor will then contact your for the first supplementary tutorial session.
Lodgement of an ITAS application form does not guarantee assistance, this is
subject to conditions set down by DEST and determined by the ITAS Officer.
