Education

Aboriginal Education is a term used to describe a broad scope of issues which cover:

  • The teaching of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students;
  • Teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies;
  • Implementing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives Across key learning area;
  • National, State and Territory Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Policies;
  • Working in partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and Communities.

The Dare to Lead: taking it on coalition supports Australian school principals to improve Indigenous education outcomes and to work for reconciliation in their schools.

What Works Program http://www.whatworks.edu.au
Provide you with examples of successful programs conducted throughout Australia that have significantly increased outcomes in formal education and training for indigenous students.

National Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Education Website http://www.natsiew.nexus.edu.au/
While NATSIEW is aimed specifically at educators and those training to be educators it contains much of interest to those outside the education professions. NATSIEW's purpose is to catalogue as comprehensively as possible, Internet resources related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with a special emphasis on education.
NATSIEW catalogs resources that:

  • Provide insights into the Indigenous learner and support Indigenous studies and perspectives;
  • Reflect the scope and diversity of Indigenous Australia as represented on the Internet;
  • promote human rights and equal opportunity and promote critical thinking in the use of the Internet, particularly in regards the evaluation of Australian Indigenous content.

Racism. No way! Is designed to assist school communities develop an understanding of the nature of racism. It provides practical information and strategies to help address racism in the learning environment.
