Joanne Buckskin

Short Supervisor Bio:

Joanne buckskin is a Wirangu descendant from South Australia. Joanne Buckskin has worked as a lecturer in Aboriginal Education with the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre and The Faculty of Education UOW for the past 5 years Joanne is subject Coordinator of Issues in Aboriginal Education ABST361 and Aboriginal Pedagogy ABST362. Joanne brings to academia a grassroots background in Aboriginal education where she has taught across early childhood, primary and secondary schools with high numbers of Aboriginal students.

Research Interests/Passion:

Joanne expertise is in educating pre service teachers to competently deliver Aboriginal perspectives across the BOS Key learning areas and to work effectively with Aboriginal students. Joanne’s interest include developing teacher’s skills in critically selecting culturally inclusive resources for use in their classrooms and providing teachers with background knowledge into cultural and linguistic diversity amongst Aboriginal students. The NSW Quality Teaching Model of Pedagogy is pertinent to Joanne research where she currently developing a research proposal for evaluating the Enhanced Teacher Preparation Program for teachers to work in schools with high numbers of Aboriginal students.

Brief Track Record:

Joanne is currently enrolled in a PhD in Education at the University of Wollongong, having already attained 3 professional degrees in Education. She completed a Bachelor of Teaching (Junior Primary) at the University of South Australia in 1996, a Bachelor of Education (In-Service) in 1998 and a Master of Education, (Adult and Community) in 2002, all at the University of South Australia.
