Dr. Colleen McGloin
Short Supervisor Bio:
Colleen is the coordinator of ABST200, Aboriginal Identities: History and Contested Knowledge, and ABST 300 Indigenous Theories of Decolonisation, and co-coordinates ABST202, Indigenous Self Representation in Contemporary Texts. Colleen has an Honours degree in English Studies and a PhD in Cultural Studies. Colleen’s PhD research examines Australian national identity, and Aboriginal conceptions of nation and country, through beach and surfing culture. Her current research interests include contemporary representations of Indigenous people, current Indigenous issues, and the development of an inclusive, anti-racist pedagogy that foregrounds Indigenous self-representation.

Colleen’s research focus is humanities based and includes Indigenous representation in texts and media, Indigenous pedagogy, and issues relating to Indigenous youth/popular culture.

Brief Track Record:
Colleen is currently participating in a WIC research grant initiative, ‘Leading the Way: Indigenous Teaching and Learning at UoW.’ She has published in the area of Indigenous youth in relation to surfing and beach culture, and is currently researching in the area of Indigenous film and its application as a resource for teaching and learning in Aboriginal Studies. Colleen holds a University award for teaching and learning.
