Mr Reuben Bolt
Short Supervisor Bio:
Reuben is a Research Fellow at Woolyungah Indigenous Centre, and is also coordinator of Perspectives in Indigenous Health II; Professional Practice III; Professional Practice IV offered at the Discipline of Indigenous Health Studies, the University of Sydney. He is a descendant from the Tomakin/Wandandian people of the Yuin Nation and is also a descendant of the Monara/Ngarigo people. He has a Bachelor of Health Science (Aboriginal Health and Community Development) Honours, a Master of Media, Arts and Production and is currently studying a PhD on urban Aboriginal identity construction. He has lectured at several universities across Sydney from the Preparatory level to Post Graduate Masters by course work . He has six years experience working on several research projects involving research into Indigenous communities.

The focus of Reuben’s PhD is urban Aboriginal identity construction. The study explores the construction of Aboriginality and the influence that it has on the way in which urban Aboriginal people make and remake their identity. Grounded in constructionist theory the study seeks to understand the local resources that Aboriginal people access when narrating their identity. These local resources are influenced by meso and macro constructions of Aboriginality in different ways for each generation. He is expecting to submit in 2008. His strong commitment to Aboriginal Health and Aboriginal issues is demonstrated in previous employment and his chosen field of study. All degrees he has studied has involved research in the Shoalhaven Aboriginal community.

Brief Track Record:
Reuben is a successful candidate of a NH&MRC training scholarship to complete a Bachelor of Health Science, honours. He was also successful in gaining a University of Sydney Post Graduate Award (UPA, that is APA equivalent) to complete his doctorate studies. He was successful in an application for a travel scholarship to Winnipeg and Vancouver, Canada in 2005 for a cultural exchange and was awarded first prize for his presentation at the Faculty of Health Science colloquium in 2005.
