The Region
Nestled between the mountains and the sea
Bald Hill Lookout at Stanwell Park, north of Wollongong,
is one of the popular lookouts located along the region¹s
beautiful coastline. It is recognised as the birthplace
of flight. Aviation pioneer Lawrence Hargrave tested
box kites from Bald Hill and communicated with the Wright
Brothers in America to assist them in their work on
flight. Today, Bald Hill is the home of Hang Gliding
and Paragliding in Australia. The lookout provides a
breathtaking view of the Illawarra coastline and escarpment.
