Faculty Awards
- • Undergraduate Scholarship ($4,000p.a.)
The scholarship is based on recent school work, leadership and community involvement, UAI score and an interview.
• Faculty Honours Scholarships ($3000)
Faculty sponsorship for student's honours year. Determined by BCom results and an interview.
• University Postgraduate Scholarships
University Postgraduate Scholarship is awarded to a full time higher degree research student who has obtained First Class Honours or equivalent results in order to obtain the award.
• Dean’s Scholars Program
The Dean’s Scholars degree provides an enriched education experience for high achieving students. Dean’s Scholars receive one-to-one academic and peer mentoring and are offered special opportunities to attend workshops and seminars. The students also have access to a range of activities and resources including: leadership development, networking opportunities, facilitated work experience opportunities, a special book allowance and a dedicated study space.
• Dean's Recognition Award - Commerce Indigenous Student Excellence Prize ($250.00)
Commerce Indigenous Excellence Prize is open to any Commerce Indigenous student enrolled at any onshore campus who successfully completed 24 credit points in the academic year and had the highest weighted average mark.
• Dean's Recognition Award - Commerce Indigenous Student Most Improved Prize ($250.00)
The Commerce Indigenous Most Improved Prize is open to any Commerce Indigenous student enrolled at any onshore campus who completed 24 credit points in the academic year. The award is presented to the student who after comparing their weighted average mark in Spring session to their weighted average mark from Autumn session had the greatest improvement in their weighted average mark.
• Dr Hemant Deo Memorial Prize ($250.00)
The prize will be awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum mark of 75 marks) in FIN925 Banking Theory and Practice.
• Laszlo Abel Memorial Award ($300.00)
The Laszlo Abel Memorial prize is in memory of Laszlo Abel a former staff member of the Faculty IT Unit who passed away in 2009. The award shall be open to any student who successfully completes COMM101 Principles of Responsible Commerce who achieves the highest mark (minimum mark of 75 marks) in a given academic year.
• HDR Student Excellence Award
This award recognises publication of good quality refereed journal articles by HDR students while they are enrolled as HDR students on the Faculty of Commerce at the University of Wollongong. Nominations are assessed by the Dean for determination of successful candidates.
• Faculty of Commerce Student Leadership Prize
This is awarded to faculty of commerce student(s) who:
a) demonstrate commitment to the welfare and support of students in the Faculty
b) sustain efforts to support students in the Faculty in a voluntary capacity
c) effective in establishing and/or sustaining communication between the faculty and students
• NAB Commerce Scholarship ($5000)
The National Australia Bank Corporate Scholarship provides Commerce undergraduate students with $5000 towards the cost of their studies at the University of Wollongong. NAB is committed to giving back to the community and helping students achieve their educational and career goals. Applicants for the NAB Scholarship must be enrolled full-time, in any year, studying a Bachelor of Commerce or a Bachelor of Business Administration at any campus at the University of Wollongong. Applicants must have achieved and/or maintain a credit average for the duration of the scholarship and demonstrate an ongoing contribution to their local community.
• BlueScope Steel Commerce Work Integrated Learning Scholarship
BlueScope Steel offers a Commerce scholarship at the University of Wollongong which comprises a $10,000 benefit plus up to 12 weeks work experience at the Port Kembla Steelworks. BlueScope Steel will attempt to provide the successful applicant with a placement or project for a student studying accounting or finance in a Commerce degree.
• Shue Yan College Bachelor of Commerce Scholarship Fee Waiver
The scholarship is open to an outstanding student who has completed all of the specified requirements of the Twinning Program between Shue Yan College, Hong Kong and the Faculty of Commerce. To be eligible the student must have achieved an overall outstanding academic performance based on criteria for ranking students by Shue Yan College. The scholarship will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. To retain this award in the second year of study at UoW, the holder must achieve an overall average of 65%.
• Commerce & Business Alumni Award (Plaque)
Given by the Commerce and Business Alumni Network to a Commerce graduate who demonstrates the following qualities: leadership; personal, professional academic success, innovation and creativity, and community spirit.
• Commerce & Business Alumni Student Award ($500.00)
Given by the Commerce and Business Alumni Network to a current Commerce graduate student who has demonstrated academic merit in a selected subject that has been chosen by the previous years winner.
• The Alumni Bookshop Faculty Prize ($300.00)
This prize is awarded to a student completing an Honours year or in the final year of a four year degree (or double degree). This prize is awarded to a student deemed to have the highest performance, as determined by the Dean.
• The Aunty Dosie Tungai Memorial Prize ($500.00)
This prize is awarded to an Australian indigenous student enrolled in a Commerce coursework whose WAM has improved most significantly between Autumn session and the following Spring session.

- • Allan Coote Memorial Prize - Trust Fund ($350)
The prize shall be open to an outstanding candidate in the Bachelor of Commerce degree. This prize is open to students enrolled in ACCY200 Financial Accounting IIA. It is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark in this subject. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• Association of Taxation and Management Accountants Annual Prize for Tax Planning ($300.00)
The prize shall be open to the student who has earned the highest mark (minimum 75 marks in the subject) in ACCY228 (Tax Planning) during the previous academic year. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• BHP Billiton/Mark Smuk Memorial Prize ($1000)
The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum a Distinction or higher) in ACCY312 Management Accounting II. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• CPA Australia 1st Year Annual Prize for Accounting in Organisations ($650.00)
The prize will be open to students enrolled in ACCY112 Accounting In Organisations. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 75 marks in the subject) in ACCY112 Accounting In Organisations. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• CPA Australia 2nd Year Annual prize for Financial Accounting IIB ($650.00)
The prize will be open to students enrolled in ACCY201 Financial Accounting IIB. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 75 marks in the subject) in ACCY201 Financial Accounting IIB. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• CPA Australia 3rd Year Annual prize for Financial Accounting III ($650.00)
The prize will be open to students enrolled in ACCY305 Financial Accounting III. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 75 marks in the subject) in ACCY305 Financial Accounting III. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• Finance Control Prize for Retirement and Estate Planning ($300.00)
The prize will be open to students enrolled in FIN328 Retirement and Estate Planning. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum mark of 75 marks) in FIN328 Retirement and Estate Planning. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

• Financial Planning Association of Australia Prize for Introduction to Financial Planning ($500.00)
The prize will be open to students enrolled in FIN251 Introduction to Financial Planning. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (achieved Distinction or higher) in FIN251 Introduction to Financial Planning. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• Financial Planning Association of Australia Prize for Advanced Financial Planning ($1000.00)
The prize will be open to students enrolled in FIN329 Advanced Financial Planning. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (achieved Distinction or higher) in FIN329 Advanced Financial Planning. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA) Annual Prize for Portfolio Analysis ($250.00)
The prize shall be open to candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Commerce and shall be made to the student who, at the first attempt, attained the highest mark (minimum 75 marks in the subject) in FIN323 Portfolio Analysis. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia Prize for Information Systems in Accounting ($500.00)
The prize will be open to students enrolled in ACCY231 Information Systems Accounting. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 75 marks in the subject) in ACCY231 Information Systems Accounting. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia Prize for Financial Markets & Institutions ($500.00)

• Jirsch Sutherland Annual Prize for Independent Accounting Expert Reports ($250.00)

The prize will be open to students enrolled in ACCY962 Professional Practice – Auditing and Risk Assurance. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 75 marks in the subject) in ACCY962 Professional Practice – Auditing and Risk Assurance. In the event of tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
• Orestis Trikas Memorial Prize -Trust Fund (prize varies)
The prize will be open to students enrolled in ACCY211 Management Accounting II. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 75 marks in the subject) in ACCY211 Management Accounting II. In the event of tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. The prize is named after a former student who died as a result of an automobile accident prior to completing his degree. The trust fund for this prize was set up by his parents.
• PricewaterhouseCoopers Annual Prize for Auditing and Assurance Services ($400.00)
The prize will be open to students enrolled in ACCY342 Auditing and Assurance Services. The prize is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 75 marks in the subject) in ACCY342 Auditing and Assurance Services. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

- Prize in ECON111 Introductory Microeconomics ($500.00)
The award shall be open to an outstanding student, from any Faculty who successfully completes ECON111 on the Wollongong campus in the Summer, Autumn or Spring Session of a given academic year. The student who has achieved the highest aggregate mark in ECON111 will be awarded the prize. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
• GHD Meyrick Prize in Economics ($500.00)
The award shall be made to the student who, at the first attempt, attained the highest overall mark for ECON305 Economic Policy during the previous academic year. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
• GHD Meyrick Prize for Honours in Economics ($500.00)
The award shall be made to the student who receives the best overall mark in the Bachelor of Commerce-Economics (Honours), Honours Class II Division 1. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
• Illawarra Business Chamber Prize for Macroeconomic Theory & Policy ($500.00)
The prize will be awarded to the student who achieves the highest aggregate mark in ECON205 Macroeconomic Theory & Policy in the Autumn or Spring sessions of the previous academic year. The prize is only awarded if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
• IRIS John Steinke Prize in Economics ($500.00)
The prize shall be awarded to the outstanding student who has earned the highest mark in 300 level Economics subjects in the previous academic year. In the event of a tie the prize money will be shared. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit as indicated by achieving an average result of 75 or above. No student shall be eligible to win the prize more than once.
• Kenneth A. Blakey Prize for ECON215 Microeconomic Theory and Policy ($500.00)
The award shall be open to an outstanding student, from any Faculty, who successfully completes ECON215 Microeconomic Theory and Policy in the previous academic year. The student who has achieved the highest aggregate mark in ECON215 will be awarded the prize. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
• Pearson Australia Prize for Macroeconomic Essentials for Business ($250.00 Book Voucher)
The award shall be open to an outstanding student, from any Faculty, who successfully completes ECON101 Macroeconomic Essentials for Business in the previous academic year. The student who has achieved the highest aggregate mark in ECON101 will be awarded the prize. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
• Pearson Australia Prize in Statistics for Business ($250.00 Book Voucher)
The award shall be open to an outstanding student, from any Faculty who successfully completes COMM121 Statistics for Business in the previous academic year. The student who has achieved the highest aggregate mark in COMM121 will be awarded the prize. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
School of Management and Marketing
- • Australian Human Resources Institute Prize for Excellence (Membership)
The award is determined by student completions in Master of Strategic HRM in the year prior to the presentation. The prize is awarded to the student who has earned the highest weighted average mark over the duration of the program. The recipient of the prize will be eligible to apply for consideration for the AHRI Award for Outstanding Achievement which is determined by the Institute.
• BIS Industrial Logistics Prize ($250.00)
The award shall be open to an outstanding student, from any Faculty, who successfully completes MGMT328 Logistics Management in a given academic year. The student who has achieved the highest aggregate mark in MGMT328 will be awarded the prize. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
• DMW Group Prize ($250.00)
The award shall be open to an outstanding student, from any Faculty, who successfully completes MGMT206 Managing Human Resources in a given academic year. The student who has achieved the highest aggregate mark in MGMT206 will be awarded the prize. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
• IRIS Marketing Research Prize ($250.00)
The award is open to candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Commerce. The prize is awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark in MARK205 Marketing Research in any one year. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize will be shared.
• IRIS Centre Prize for Small Business Research ($250.00)
The prize will be awarded to the postgraduate student who achieves the highest mark in MGMT 941 Small Business Management. The prize will be awarded only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be shared.
