Emily Purser

BA Hons. MPhil, Grad Dip. TESOL,
PhD in progress

Lecturer
Learning Development
University of Wollongong

Emily has been teaching in universities since 1986, for a wide range of curricula and cohorts. Her particular interest in English, linguistics, and the teaching of language grew out of studies in other languages, literature, and art history at the University of Sydney. She spent ten years overseas (in China and Germany), teaching English, language theory & history, and Australian Studies, before moving back to Australia in 2000 as a lecturer in TESOL at UOW. With expertise in language teaching, educational linguistics, materials writing and editing, she joined Learning Development in 2002, and is currently focusing on the learning needs of international students in Commerce and Informatics. At the Sydney Business School she has implemented a communications subject, and she is particularly interested in developing language and literacy support in online learning environments. She provides the LD outreach service to the Moss Vale Education Centre, and represents LD at the Science faculty Education Committee, the E-Learning and Teaching Innovation Sub-Committee and the Language and International Student Support Committee of the UIC.
