Searching for Journal Articles using keywords

In Guide 2 you learned how to select topic keywords from an assessment task. You can also use these keywords to search for journal articles in Summon.

Summon

  1. allows you to search for quality journal articles using keywords
  2. provides currently enrolled students with free access to millions of online journal articles, provided by the UOW Library

Remember the steps

  1. Identify your topic keywords
  2. Enter topic keywords into Summon
  3. Select "Content type", journal article
  4. To find academic journal articles, limit by scholarly/peer-reviewed
  5. To refine your search to the main topic of a journal article, limit by "Subject terms"

You now know that Summon has a range of limits. Each of these limits has a different purpose.

Which limit will help you focus the topic of your search and find more relevant results?

Content type
Incorrect. Content type is used to limit by information type; e.g. book, newspaper, journal article.
Subject terms
Correct. Subject terms help you refine your results and find more relevant information.
Location
Incorrect. Location is used to find printed material in a specific library location; e.g. Shoalhaven, Bega, etc.
