Applying For Your Work Visa

Applications for Student Visas with Permission to Work can be made by any of the three following ways:

  1. Lodging your Permission to Work application over the Internet

  • Email confirmstudy@uow.edu.au after you have enrolled and the session has commenced and ask to have your study confirmed electronically. You will need to provide your full name, student number and eCoE number (top right of your eCoE) in the email. We will then advise DIMA electronically that you have commenced your course. You will be sent an email when your study has been confirmed.
  • Log onto the Internet at: http://www.immi.gov.au/study/working/, select “How to apply to work while studying”, then “procedures for applying online.”
  • You will need your credit card details to make the payment.
  • You will be sent an email to confirm that your application is complete.
  • Once you have received advice that the application is complete, please bring your passport to DIMA to have the new visa label attached.
  • When you come to the DIMA office, please select the new ticket called “E-visa Evidencing”. This is an express service to receive labels for visa’s that have been lodged over the Internet.
  1. Lodging your Permission to Work application through the Wollongong Campus Post Office

  • Permission to Work applications can only be lodged at the Post Office between 9:30-11:30am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
  • You will still need to complete your details on a 157P form before the Post Office can lodge your application. Attach a copy of the email saying your study has been confirmed.
  • You must have your current passport with you at the time you apply for your work visa.
  • You must also have a photocopy of the page in your passport that shows your name and photograph and a photocopy of your valid student visa. Please note that there are no photocopying services available at the University Post Office so you will need to make your copies before going to the Post Office. Copies can be made at the UniShop, Student Service Centre or at the Library.
  • Payment can be made through an Australian debit/savings card (e.g. National Bank savings card) or Australian credit card. There is an additional $10 processing fee for lodging through the Post Office which must be paid in cash.
  • The Post Office will notify you when your visa label is ready for collection, usually 7 to 10 days. You collect this directly from the Post Office and will not be required to go to Sydney.
