Student Representation

Student Representative Forum

What is it?

The Student Representative Forum is a meeting of student representatives from throughout the University. Student representatives meet in the University Council room twice per year to discuss University wide issues affecting students.  Past Forums have discussed student services; IT services and access; tutorial enrolment systems; timetabling; international student safety; University overseas operations; laboratory access; lecturer feedback mechanisms; as well as the nature and substance of student representation at UOW.

Who is it?

Student Representatives from the University Council, Academic Senate, Senate Committees and subcommittees, WUPA and WUSA, University Accommodation, UniCentre and URAC Boards, University Committees, and Faculty Committees are invited to attend the Forum. Faculty representation is usually limited to one student representative per Faculty.
Hosted by the Academic Registrar, University Officers and executives attend the Forum, as required, to discuss student raised issues directly with student representatives. In the past the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic); the Vice-Principal (Administration); the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International); and the Chair of Academic Senate have attended the Forum to examine issues related to their area of responsibility with student representatives.

When is it?

Student Representative Forums are held twice a year, one per semester usually in April and October.

Agenda

Student representatives are invited to propose agenda items for discussion at the Student Representative Forum by responding to a Call for Items from the Academic Registrar’s Division.
Student representatives are asked to prepare agenda papers on the issue(s) they propose for discussion and provide background information on that issue for the other participants in the Forum. Agenda items without agenda papers cannot be accepted. University officers and executives also use the Student Representative Forum to discuss matters related to student life; learning and teaching; research; student administration; University processes; and feedback received at previous Forums.

Minutes

The proceedings of the Student Representative Forum are minuted by a University Officer and provided to student representatives shortly after the meeting for review. Issues that require action by University officers or student representatives are listed in an action items list so that student representatives can see developments arising from the issues raised at the Forum. The minutes are included in the University Council agenda papers for the Council’s information.
