Submitting an Assignment
The concepts
1. The assignment must exist as a file on the computer you are using for your
WebCT session.
2. Your assignment file has to be copied (uploaded) to your WebCT file storage
area - your personal file storage area on the central university computer which
hosts your subject's website
3. After the file is in your own WebCT storage area, then you can submit it,
so that it can be read by your lecturer or tutor for assessment
So you have three steps
Step 1 Create the assignment file
|
Step 2 Upload the assignment file
|
Step 3 Submit the assignment file
|
Step 1 Create the file
|
You can use Word or any other appropriate software to create your assignment
file.
When naming an assignment file which you intend to upload and submit
to WebCT, you must
- use single-word filenames (asst3.doc, not asst 3.doc) or insert an
underscore between words (asst_3.doc)
- use only letters and/or numbers in filenames (don't use ,:";'+=
etc)
- end the filename with a three-letter extension that indicates what
type of file it is (.txt for plain text, .doc for MS-Word, .xls for
MS-Excel, etc)
- as an example, a suitable filename could be fsmithasst2.doc
(though your Subject Coordinator may have a required format for filenames
in your subject)
|
Step 2 Upload the file
Find your way to the Assignments page using the buttons on your subject
website.
Remember to READ THE SCREEN - the instructions are usually shown below the
buttons.
| 1. Click the Assignment title |
|
| 2. Click Student Files: this step takes you to your own WebCT files
area so you can upload the file from your computer to WebCT |
|
|
3. Click the Upload button to start the process
|
|
| 4. Click Browse to locate your assignment file on your own computer |
|
| 5. Open it! |
|
| 6. Now you've indicated which file it is, click Upload to transfer it
to your WebCT files area |
|
|
You've now finished copying the file into WebCT
If your answer to the assignment
is in more than one file, you can repeat Step 2 to upload
the other file(s)
Now you're ready to submit
the assignment
|
| 7. Click the Assignment title to return to the Assignment submission page |
|
Step 3 Submit the assignment file
| 1. Click the Submit assignment button to start the process |
|
|
2. If your lecturer has included an email notification option for you,
you can enter your email address here to receive automatic confirmation
that your assignment has been submitted.
Note: this confirmation goes to your regular email, not your WebCT mailbox.
|
|
| 3. Click Submit assignment to transmit the assignment to your lecturer |
|
| 4. Last chance to change your mind! |
|
|
That's the end of Step 3!
|
| 5. Click the Assignments link to go back to the list of assignments |
|
| 6. The assignment title is not a link any more, so you can't submit the
assignment a second time (unless your lecturer lets you). The message Not
Graded is showing in the Status column.
When the assignment has been graded by your lecturer, this message changes
to a hyperlink that says Graded and your grade appears in the Grade
column. After that happens, you can click the hyperlink to view your instructor's
comments about your work. |
