Advanced Standing and your COE

What is Advanced Standing?

The University offers advanced standing (credit transfer) to students who have successfully completed courses or parts of courses at other universities and colleges. The credit can be approved as either specified or unspecified. This means that you can get credit for specific subjects or for credit points or both. Applications for advanced standing can be made either:

  • as part of your application for admission; or
  • after you enrol using the Advanced Standing form available from Student Central.

All applications for advanced standing must be accompanied by:

  • full documentation of previous studies, with photocopies of the relevant pages from the Handbook/Calendar of the institution concerned;
  • accompanied by a certified transcript of results.

For credit transfer arrangements refer to the following University web page.

How Does Advanced Standing Affect My COE?

If you are granted advanced standing it may decrease the amount of time you will need to complete your course. If your course credit has been granted before you arrive and it affects the length of your course, your COE will reflect the shortened period of study. If you are granted advanced standing after you have started your degree, your COE will be amended to reflect the change in timeframe. You will be provided with a copy of the new COE with instructions.

If I get Advanced Standing, Do I Need to Apply for a New Student Visa?

DIAC have advised that you only need to apply for a new student visa if your current student visa is about to expire.

When you complete your course you will then have 28 days in which to leave Australia or apply for a further visa if eligible.
