Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What happens if I fail one subject and as a result I am not able to complete my course within the timeframe of my COE?
If you fail one subject in a session, you should attempt to complete that subject in an alternative session. If this leads to you needing more time to complete your degree then you will be able to apply for a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) via SOLS.
What happens if I cannot cope with enrolling in 24 credit points each session?
If you are having difficulties with your studies it is best to see your Student Equity and Diversity Liaison Officer (SEDLO) to discuss if it would be appropriate for an intervention strategy to be activated for you or for you to apply for permission to reduce your study load. An intervention strategy may include an agreed program of study, language and learning support, referral to an appropriate support service, academic advice or referral to a Faculty based remedial program and arrangements. Please note: you will need to provide evidence of your circumstances.
I am only taking one subject in my final session, is this ok?
Yes, provided that it fits in with the timeframe set by your current COE, you can be enrolled in only one subject.
I have one subject left to complete my degree can I extend the timeframe set on my COE?
Yes, you will need to apply for a new COE via SOLS. You may need to demonstrate compassionate or compelling circumstances for the extension.
My father is seriously ill and I need to return home. Can I take a leave of absence?
Yes, under National Code 2007 this would be considered compassionate and compelling circumstances. You will have to apply for a Leave of Absence. You must provide original or certified documentation that supports your application. For example, your father's medical certificates and your flight details.
I have been here less than 6 months and I would like to transfer to another University?
If you have studied at the University of Wollongong for less than 6 months, you cannot change to another provider unless you are granted a letter of release. If you wish to change, you must complete an Application Letter of Release form and provide all relevant documentation. A Letter of Release will not be automatically granted. Your application will be assessed and you will be notified of the outcome of your application.
If I have a COE for one year, and I only have 6 subjects left to complete, can I do 3 subjects in Autumn Session, and 3 subjects in Spring Session, or do I have to do 4 subjects in Autumn Session and 2 in Spring Session?
As long as you are able to complete your course in the timeframe set on your COE, then you are able to complete 3 subjects in Autumn Session and 3 subjects in Spring Session. You can also chose to complete 4 subjects in one session and 2 in the other.
