Goods & Services Tax Refund for Compulsory Service Charges

Introduction

The University of Wollongong has applied for and received a favourable private ruling from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) deeming our compulsory service charges (CSC) - i.e. student body fees - to be GST-free and backdated from 1 July 2000.

This process has been undertaken for the benefit of our students.

Current Situation

The University has ceased charging GST on Compulsory Service Charges.

All existing and previous students who have paid GST on compulsory service charges from 1 July 2000 to date are entitled to a refund.

The process of refunding GST to students began in November last year. To date, all applications received for refunds have been processed.
