Graduation: Thursday 19 July 2007

Dr Stephen van Duin graduated on Thursday morning with a PhD in Electrical Engineering. His thesis involved the study of impulse control systems for the precision control of servomechanisms with non-linear friction.

Manager of UOW Loftus Education Centre, Ravi Daga (foreground), graduated with a MBA. He was joined by Michelle Wright (Master of Management), Sue McNicholas (Grad Cert in Management) & Malcolm McGregor (Master of Management with Distinction).

Meg Van Warmelo made a particularly long trip to Wollongong to watch her son, Martin, graduate. Meg travelled all the way from Johannesburg in South Africa for the special occasion. He received a Master of Engineering (Research).

Dr Marie Roussel travelled back to Wollongong from France to receive a PhD at Thursday morning’s ceremony for her characterisation of the magnetic flux behaviour in superconductors via the magneto-optical imaging technique.

The Occasional Address was presented by Chief Executive and Executive Director of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), Dr Ian Smith. Pictured with Federal Member for Hughes Danna Vale and Chancellor Mr Michael Codd AC.

Libyan-born Bubaker Shareia could barely speak English when he arrived in Australia in 2001, but on Thursday afternoon he was the recipient of a PhD degree from the School of Accounting and Finance.

The Occasional Speaker at the Faculty of Commerce ceremony was Mr Steve Tucker, the Chief Executive Officer of MLC (the wealth management division of the National Australia Bank). He is pictured with the Chancellor Mr Michael Codd AC.
