 was admitted as an Emeritus Professor of the University at the July 16 Creative Arts/Engineering/Law/Science graduation ceremony. He has served UOW for more than 30 years as a teacher, researcher and academic leader. Druce was instrumental in securing the University’s place in the Co-operative Research Centre for Materials Welding and his ideas prompted the establishment of the current BHP Steel Institute. Druce was Head of the Department of Material Engineering from 1993 to 1999. He is pictured with the Chancellor, Mr Michael Codd, AC.'))

 Jin who was in his third year of PhD studies in the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute (IPRI) at UOW when he was tragically killed in December 2003. He was doing the shift for a friend at a southern Sydney service station when he was stabbed to death by a robber. Jeffrey left behind his wife (Julie) and 15-year-old son, Josh. To help support them in some small way, the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute (IPRI) established the ’Jeffrey Jin Appeal’ to run from July 1 2004 for 12 months. The funds raised will be made available to Josh in the form of a scholarship to assist with his education after high school which he will complete next year.
