AusAID On Arrival

Welcome to Australia and the University of Wollongong (UOW). The Australian Government's overseas aid program aims to assist developing countries reduce poverty, achieve sustainable development and increase access to quality education and training. To date, UOW has provided quality academic and personal support to AusAID sponsored students from 31 countries. As a result, enduring links with individuals, institutions and countries have been built.

What are the arrival procedures?

All AusAID sponsored students are required to make their way to the University of Wollongong (see Getting to UOW) the next working day after their arrival to their temporary accommodation. Students are required to go to Student Central, located in Building 17 and collect their Arrival Packs (see UOW Map). The UOW AusAID Officer will meet you at Student Central to assist you with the following:

  • Confirm identity for scholarship purposes
  • Receive your $5,000 establishment grant
  • Receive your OSHC card
  • Complete a personal release of details form
  • Open a NAB Bank Account
  • Deposit establishment grant
  • Complete a stipend banking details form
  • Assistance with permanent accommodation 
  • Questions

Applying for UOW Accommodation 

AusAID sponsored students who wish to apply for UOW Accommodation are advised to submit an application prior to arriving in Australia. 

Please visit the UOW Accommodation Services website to submit an application for accommodation and view UOW accommodation options.

AusAID sponsored students are also encouraged to investigate private accommodation options as UOW Accommodation is not guaranteed, more information is available on the UOW Accommodation Services private accommodation web page.
