Cancellation for Non-Payment of Tuition Fees: Domestic Students

If you are reading this page, it probably means you have had your enrolment cancelled due to non-payment of fees. It may not be too late to re-instate your enrolment, and this page will outline the options which are available to you.

  1. Why was my enrolment cancelled?
  2. What does cancellation mean for me?
  3. I would like to be reinstated back into the session and subjects I was cancelled from.
  4. I would like to be reinstated back into the session I was cancelled from, but not all of the subjects I was cancelled from.
  5. I would like to come back to the University in a future session.
  6. I do not want to come back to the University.
  7. I would like to appeal my late fee.

 1. Why was my enrolment cancelled?

Enrolments with UOW are cancelled if all or part of a student’s fees are outstanding after the census date (last date to withdraw without financial penalty) of the study period.

Census date information is available via your SOLS Fee Statement & Enrolment and Variations page, and the key dates webpage.

If you chose to pay your fees in full up-front, this means you have been cancelled because you did not pay your fees by the session census date.

If you chose to defer your fees to a HELP Loan, you have been cancelled because you did not provide the University with your Tax File Number and permission to use it by the session census date. Your Tax File Number and permission can be provided via the ‘HELP Loan Option’ link on the left hand side of your SOLS menu. For more information on billing options, please visit this page.

 2. What does cancellation mean for me?

While your enrolment remains cancelled, you are not an active student of the University of Wollongong. You are removed from all subjects and sessions you were enrolled into (including annual and other concurrent sessions).
You are no longer covered by UOW insurance or public liability and cannot attend classes or sit exams.

 3. I would like to be reinstated back into the session and subjects I was cancelled from.

If you would like to be reinstated back into the session and subjects you were cancelled from, you will need to;

Commonwealth Supported Students

  • Students paying upfront need to pay all outstanding fees, plus a $100.00 reinstatement fee within 10 working days of cancellation (this date will be shown on your cancellation letter and SOLS message).
  • Students wishing to defer to a HECS-HELP Loan need to provide their Tax File Number within 10 working days of cancellation (this date will be shown on your cancellation letter and SOLS message). These students will also need to pay a $100.00 reinstatement fee.
  • Once payment or TFN information has been submitted, students must contact the fees team at student-fees@uow.edu.au to request to have their enrolment reinstated.

Full Fee Paying Students

  • Students paying upfront need to pay all outstanding fees, plus a $100.00 reinstatement fee and a $200.00 late fee, within 10 working days of cancellation (this date will be shown on your cancellation letter and SOLS message).
  • Students wishing to defer to a FEE-HELP Loan need to provide their Tax File Number within 10 working days of cancellation (this date will be shown on your cancellation letter and SOLS message). These students will also need to pay a $100.00 reinstatement fee and a $200.00 late fee.
  • Once payment or TFN information has been submitted, students must contact the fees team at student-fees@uow.edu.au to request to have their enrolment reinstated.

Beyond the 10 working day deadline, you will not be able to be reinstated back into the session and subjects you were cancelled from. If you wish to continue study at UOW after this time, you can contact UniAdvice to seek a new offer for a future session (as per step 5). If you have already completed subjects with UOW, you can seek approval to have these credited to your new offer and should discuss this with UniAdvice when seeking your new offer.

 4. I would like to be reinstated back into the session I was cancelled from, but not all the subjects I was cancelled from.

Unless special circumstances exist, you must be reinstated back into all subjects you were cancelled from. As per the UOW Fees Policy, beyond the census date, you are financially liable for any subjects you remain enrolled into.

If you feel that special circumstances exist in your situation to warrant a removal (refund) of the fees for a subject, you can complete an Application for Refund of Fees – Domestic.  For a guideline to domestic fee refund eligibility, please visit Refunds – Domestic Students.

Fee refunds take up to 28 days to complete. Therefore, you may prefer to reinstate as per step 3 if you are seeking to be reinstated back into the session you were cancelled from. Otherwise, you may need to follow step 5 if your reinstatement deadline has passed.

Students in this situation should contact the Fees Team at student-fees@uow.edu.au,  or on 1800 275 869 (1800 ASK UOW) to discuss their particular circumstances.

 5. I would like to come back to UOW in a future session.

If you would like to come back to the University in a future session, contact UniAdvice to seek a new offer.

Depending on the reasons for cancellation, you may still be liable to pay the outstanding tuition fees, late payment or reinstatement fee for the session you are cancelled from.. You will still be liable for other outstanding administration and library fees you have incurred.

 6. I do not want to come back to UOW.

If you do not wish to come back to the University of Wollongong, you will not need to take any action.

Depending on the reasons for cancellation, you may still be liable to pay the outstanding tuition fees, late payment or reinstatement fee for the session you are cancelled from (Check your Fee Statement via SOLS for any outstanding tuition debt). You will still be liable for other outstanding administration and library fees you have incurred. Debts outstanding for more than 90 days are referred to a debt collector and may attract additional fees and charges.

 7. I would like to appeal my late fee.

If you believe that special circumstances exist which caused you to be unable to pay your fees by the census date, you can submit an appeal against your late fee ($200.00). The form is available from the student forms page.

The $100.00 reinstatement fee is not refundable.

If you have any questions, or if you believe you will have difficulty meeting your payment obligations, you should contact the Fees Team at student-fees@uow.edu.au,  or on 1800 275 869 (1800 ASK UOW) prior to the census date to discuss your circumstances and options.
