Hello there future exchange students! I left Wollongong in December of 2005 to study in Mexico City for one semester but I am still here. My exchange experience has been amazing. I came to Mexico to study Spanish and continue my BA degree. After only one semester my Spanish was still lacking and I loved the place, so I stayed. And as the Summer break here is in between these two semesters (June & July) I was able to travel. I made it through Central America, Columbia and Peru! And the best part is that most of it is paid by good old Johnny Howard. You see I am still able to receive Centrelink payments over here and I won a $4000 Government scholarship before I left!

Chacaua: A small fishing village on a remote, boat-accessed peninsula on the Oaxaca coast, Mexico. This is where I spent Christmas and New Year with other Mexican travelers and released baby turtles into the Pacific Ocean. |
Since I have been here I have meet some great friends from all over the world, not just Mexicans: South Africans, Dutch, Norwegians, French and people from various countries in South America etc. I have also met a special Mexicana who just may come back to Australia for a while to study English!
Before I left for Mexico I wasn't looking forward to the pollution or crime that I had heard about. But don't let those rumours stop you because they aren't true! Mexico is a beautiful city with incredible nightlife and I have never felt threatened here. The culture of this country is amazing also!
The Uni is situated in the very developed city of Mexico and the Uni itself is first class. If you have the option to study over here at 'La Iberoamericana' then take it!
See you all next year!
Jeff
