Items not permitted in exams
These guidelines apply to all exams, including open-book exams.
You will not be permitted to bring the following items into any exam room:
This includes any form of opaque (not clear) bag larger than A4, including but not limited to carry bags, backpacks, shoulder bags and briefcases.
Any form of electronic device including but not limited to laptops, iPads, MP3 players, handheld computers and electronic dictionaries. Calculators and mobile phones are covered separately.
Opaque (not clear) pencil cases are not permitted. Clear zip-lock bags are provided at exam venues if you need something to hold your stationery items.
Calculator cases and covers are not permitted.
Blank paper is not permitted. Rough markings should be made on the exam booklets provided.
Tissues are not permitted. Tissues will be available in all exam venues if required.
Written material is not permitted unless specified in the subject outline by your examiner. This includes items such as prayer books, packets of tissues and of cigarettes, and eraser covers.
Food and drink
No other food except lollies, and no other drink except water, will be permitted in exam venues.
If you have a disability or medical condition which requires you to eat or drink during your exam, you should ensure that you have registered with the Disability Liaison Officer at least three weeks before the exam period so that alternative arrangements can be made for you. No other exceptions will be made.
For safety reasons, items such as umbrellas, glass, cigarette lighters and matches will not be permitted in exam venues.
Storage of unauthorised items
The items specified above must be left outside the exam room. The University does not guarantee the safe-keeping of your personal items during exams. If you are concerned about the safety of your valuable items you should make other arrangements for their care while you are in your exam.
If you are sitting your exam in the Sports Hub, you will need to leave your bag in a room in Building 41. Please make sure you leave enough time to do this before your exam starts.
