I can’t see my timetable.

There are a few reasons you can’t see your personalised timetable.

  • Are you looking in the right place? You need to log in to SOLS and select the Exam Timetable link. You will be presented with an information page, at the bottom of which is a button marked ‘I Understand’. You need to press this button and you should be taken to your personalised exam timetable.
  • The timetable you are looking for may not yet be released. Check the publication dates of the exam timetables here.
  • Your subjects may not have formal exams which are being scheduled by the Exams Unit. Some final exams are run within the academic unit and do not appear on the personalised exam timetables. Check with your subject coordinator or lecturer about final exam arrangements.
  • You may have added subjects to your enrolment record after the timetable was produced. If this is the case, contact exam_unit@uow.edu.au and your personalised exam timetable will be amended. It is important that you do this, otherwise a seat will not be allocated for you at the exam venue.

I have two exams scheduled on the same day.

It is recognised by the University that this situation is not ideal for students, and steps are taken each exam period to minimise the number of students having to sit two exams on the same day. However, in any given exam period, there will be approximately 10% of students who will have two exams scheduled on the same day. This is largely a result of the restrictions involved in scheduling over 12,000 students and their exams into a two week exam period.

I have two exams scheduled on the same day, on different campuses.

Please contact exam_unit@uow.edu.au as soon as you can. Arrangements will be made for you to sit both exams at one campus, preferably Wollongong, however this can be negotiated according to circumstances. No changes will be made to the exam paper you receive. For example, if you have one exam at Wollongong and one exam at Batemans Bay, arrangements would be made for you to have the Batemans Bay exam paper given to you to complete while sitting in a Wollongong venue.

I have two exams scheduled at exactly the same time on the same day.

In this situation, a direct clash of scheduled exams, please contact exam_unit@uow.edu.au as soon as possible. You will be asked to complete an application form requesting an alternative sitting for one of the exams. Once the direct clash has been certified by the Exams Team, you will need to contact one of the relevant subject coordinators to request an alternative sitting. For academic integrity reasons, you may find that one of the subject coordinators is more willing than another to approve an alternative sitting.

Once an alternative sitting has been approved, the subject coordinator may decide to make the arrangements themselves, or request that the Exams Team make arrangements. In most cases you will need to sit the exam as soon as possible before or after the mainstream group sits the exam. You should be asked to complete a statutory declaration to state that you will not discuss the contents of the exam paper with any other person. In some cases you may be required to be quarantined. This means that you will sit the clashing exams on the same day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and be supervised during the lunch break. You may sit in a different venue to the mainstream students.

I have three exams scheduled on the same day.

Please contact exam_unit@uow.edu.au as soon as possible. You will be asked to complete an application form requesting an alternative sitting for one of the exams. Once the direct clash has been certified by the Exams Team, you will need to contact one of the relevant subject coordinators to request an alternative sitting. I want to take a foreign language translation dictionary into the exam.

University policy allows for NESB (non-English speaking background) students to use foreign language dictionaries for their exams regardless of the year of enrolment. NESB students are defined by DEST (Department of Education, Science and Training) as those students who were born in a non-English speaking country and who have been a resident of Australia or another English speaking country for less than ten years.

Should you meet this criteria, you may apply for authorisation to be printed on your student identification card which will allow you to use a foreign language translation dictionary in any exam in any year of enrolment at the University of Wollongong. The card must be produced before any dictionary will be permitted into any exam venue. The dictionaries must be in printed not electronic form, and must contain no notes or other annotations. It is your responsibility to make sure that there are no notes in your dictionary, even if you have borrowed one from another person.

The application form is available on-line and should be submitted to Student Central on the ground floor of Building 17.

I can’t take the exam on the scheduled day.

The Special Consideration policy provides that students may apply for special consideration in advance of the exam if they find themselves unable to take an exam as a result of an illness, or for religious reasons, or if they have validated conflicts between the exam and other commitments such as their carer’s duties, court appearances or participation in sporting or cultural activities at a national or international level.

In this situation you should ensure that you have supporting documentation, and apply for special consideration via SOLS as soon as you become aware of the conflict.

I couldn’t go to my exam because I was sick.

You should visit a medical practitioner as soon as possible after the exam and subsequently submit an application for special consideration. Applications should be submitted within seven days of the exam, and documentation should be submitted within three days of submitting the application. Your subject coordinator will consider a request for a supplementary exam, if appropriate, and you will be advised by email of the decision.

More information about supplementary exams can be found here.
