Planning Your Degree
Consulting an Academic AdviserPrior to enrolment, you are strongly advised to consult with an academic adviser. Most degree programs include a combination of compulsory and elective subjects. As not all subjects are offered each session or year, it is important that students obtain advice before planning their program of study. Each Faculty has a Sub-Dean charged with responsibility for overseeing student counselling and advisory services of the Faculty and member units. Choosing your CourseIt is important that you choose your course and the combination of subjects that make up your course carefully. Your enrolment in a subject is contingent upon meeting any pre- or co- requisite requirements for that subject; the limitation on the number of students who can be enrolled in that subject not being exceeded; and the subject being available for the nominated session. A subject cannot count towards your course unless it is listed in the appropriate schedule for that course. Students are encourage to read the Undergraduate or Postgraduate Handbook prior to enrolment. Double DegreesDouble degree students are required to comply with the course requirements for double degrees and with the requirements of the two individual degrees for which they are enrolled. Internationalise Your DegreeImprove your employability after graduation by including an international focus to your degree. You may choose to undertake an International Studies Minor or to participate in a Student Exchange Program Cross-institutional StudyIf you wish to enrol at another tertiary institution, concurrently or otherwise, and have subjects successfully completed at that institution count towards your course at UOW, you must gain the prior approval of your Faculty Sub-Dean. Summer SessionMost Faculties offer a limited range of subjects during summer session, providing students with an opportunity to accelerate their studies or catch up. Subjects are condensed over a seven-week period commencing in mid December and finishing in late January with a break over Christmas. A Summer Session Timetable is released in September of each year. |
