Varying or Interrupting Studies

Change of Course Registration:

If you are an undergraduate student and wish to change the course that you are currently enrolled in, you must complete an Application to Vary your Course Registration available from the Student Forms and Documents page.

Change of Major:

If you wish to change your major to another within the same course, you must complete an Application for Change of Intended Major available from the Student Forms and Documents page.

Additional Subjects:

You will need to complete an Academic Approval form if you wish to:

• add a subject but need a waiver of a pre-requisite and/or co-requisite;
• add a subject after week two of session and need the Head of Unit's approval; or
• exceed the maximum number of credit points for a session and/or year.

Leave of Absence:

Generally, Domestic Undergraduate students, not in their first session of study, are entitled to 12 months off and are not required to seek academic approval from their faculty as long as they notify the University by completing a Leave of Absence form available from the Student Forms and Documents website. However, students who wish to take a Leave of Absence in excess of 12 months must have the Leave of Absence form approved by the delegated authority of their Faculty.

All other students, including Domestic Postgraduates and end-on honours Bachelor degrees must seek academic approval from their faculty for any period of Leave of Absence. Failure to notify the University of an intention to take a Leave of Absence can result in the students course being lapsed.

International students need to refer to the International Students @ UOW website for the correct process in taking a break from their studies.

The Leave of Absence form must be received at Student Central no later than the last day to enrol with academic permission of the first session for which the leave is sought.
