2009 Tax Office Debt Statements
On the 1st June each year, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) sends out statements of debts incurred by students that have been reported.
The purpose of this statement is to assist you when you are completing your tax return after the 30th June.
The statement will show detail of tuition fee debts reported by any Australian University in your name, and against your tax file number.
You should use this ATO statement to reconcile against your Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) which was issued to you by the University 28 days after each session census date.
To access your CAN at UOW, simply log onto SOLS and select ‘Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN)’ under the ‘FEES’ menu. Then select the course and session you would like to check and the details will appear.
Information on your CAN includes: - Details of subjects you incurred fees for, - Any upfront payments received by the University BY THE CENSUS DATE, - Any discounts you received for upfront payments, and - Any residual HELP debt reported for that session to the ATO.
