Date: Friday, 17 August 2007
Venue: Building 20 Room 1
Time: 12.30 – 1.30pm
DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS are coming to the University of Wollongong as part of International Week. It is the world’s leading independent organisation for medical-humanitarian aid. Annually, more than 3,000 volunteer doctors, nurses and support staff work in trouble spots around the world helping those living on the edge of human tolerance.
DO I NEED TO BE A DOCTOR to make a difference in these countries … NO YOU DO NOT.
Come and listen to two University of Wollongong students who are out there making a difference and they are still doing an undergraduate degree.
Joshua Lansom has spent time at an orphanage on the Thai-Burma border and will be travelling to the highlands of Papua New Guinea to volunteer at a rural hospital in January 2007.
Michael O’Halloran is a third year student who started in a Psychology degree. His travels and experiences in the Pacific nation of Vanuatu led him onto a new career path studying Population Health/Indigenous Health. Michael will share his journey with you and encourage you to take an adventure that will create a whole new motivation towards your studies which may ultimately change your life.
These are ordinary guys with no special qualifications who are experiencing real life challenges. Come and hear how they got involved and how you can too !!!
This will be followed by a free BBQ outside Building 41.
