More Assaults Near Wollongong Campus

Following our previous advice from Wollongong Police on the 18th February, 2009 we regret to advise that further incidents have been reported in the last few days with the latest incident having occurred as late as yesterday during the day. In one incident the offender exposed his genitals to the victim.

These incidents are occurring during the day and at night between the Wollongong Campus and the TAFE.

Wollongong Police and UOW Security are liaising closely and Police and UOW Security are stepping up patrols in this area.

All students are reminded to take advantage of free university shuttle bus services running every twenty minutes between the Wollongong Campus and North Wollongong Railway Station. For more information go to the attached link.

Safety tips:

- Don’t walk alone.
- Walking alone use the free shuttle service
- Walk in groups of two or more people
- Avoid using this area between Wollongong Campus and TAFE at night.
- Be alert and aware of your surroundings avoid long conversations on your mobile or sms texting while walking.
- At night stay in well lit areas where there are lots of people.
- Walk confidently and be assertive.
- If you feel like you are being followed or threatened, cross the road or change direction and vary your pace, enter a shop or seek assistance from a occupied house.
- Report any incidents or suspicious activity to Police or UOW Security immediately.
