Assaults Near Wollongong Campus
Issued on behalf of the Crime Prevention Unit Wollongong Police.
Wollongong Police are asking the public for assistance in identifying a male that may be able to assist with two incidents that occurred last night (17th February). A female while walking on the University Avenue Bridge around 8.40pm was confronted by a male who physically took hold of her, she pulled away and reported the incident to Police. A short time later a female was walking on the cycle track near the Wollongong TAFE a male has uttered some words towards a female and touched her she has challenged him and he has left.
Description is aged late 20's medium to solid build 180-185cm tall olive complexion possibly European or Indian/Pakistani in appearance.
All students should be reminded of safety tips and to take advantage of shuttle bus services running between the Wollongong Campus and North Wollongong Railway Station.
TIPS:
- Try and walk with other people rather than by yourself. - Be aware of your surroundings avoid long conversations on your mobile or sms texting while walking. - At night stay in well lit areas where there are lots of people. - Be alert assertive and confident. - If you feel like you are being followed or threatened, cross the road change direction and vary your pace, enter a shop or seek assistance from a occupied house. - Report any incidents or suspicious activity to Police or UOW Security immediately.
