New SPAM mechanism: Junk Mail Manager
The University is implementing an enhanced SPAM management mechanism known as "SPAM Quarantine". This will replace the existing "Junkmail" folder which is located within your University mailbox.
The significant advantage of this new mechanism is that email scored as SPAM will be stored in a Quarantine Mailbox that does not count as part of your University email quota.
What do you need to do? ----------------------- You do not need to do anything with your University Mailbox. This change will be managed centrally.
What will you see? ------------------ 1. As your mail account is added to the quarantine store (known as the Junk Mail Manager), and the first piece of SPAM is received into your new Junk Mail Manager account, you will receive a welcome email with the subject "Welcome to your new Junk Mail Manager account". Please note, you will only receive this AFTER you have had SPAM delivered to your new account for the first time.
2. The existing Junkmail filter in Mirapoint mail will be disabled, as this is now replaced by the new Junk Mail Manager. The Junkmail folder will be left in place, however all email that is greater than 2 weeks old will be cleared out of this Junkmail folder and permanently deleted. At the end of January, the rest of the mail in this folder will be deleted on your behalf, and the folder will become redundant.
3. Any whitelists that you have created locally will be moved to the new Junk Mail Manager's "Allowed Senders List" and remain functional. Please note that during the implementation, it is possible that some emails may miss the whitelisting filter.
4. Each day, Junk Mail Manager will send you a single email containing a summary log with links to the quarantined messages. You can either release a message from quarantine or whitelist a recipient directly from within this email, or simply ignore it. If you ignore it, the messages will be deleted from quarantine after 31 days during this initial implementation. This will be reduced to 14 days from 1/02/07.
