Help make cycling easier - Lunch meeting

Dear cyclists, and those interested in cycling

The University would like us to consider forming a UOW Bicycle Users Group to promote cycling among our staff and students, and to work towards improving cycling support and infrastructure.

Are you interested in cycling? Would you like to be involved in providing advice and help with cycling related issues in the University, to work to improve the safety and convenience of this form of commuting, and encourage more people to help save our environment in this way.

Examples of what you could help with are:
- We are currently adding new cycle parking racks around the Uni. Do you have any suggestions regarding a location that is sorely in need of one?
- I have received a request from the Illawarra Active Transport Taskforce seeking individuals support to press for "a public awareness campaign concentrating on raising motorists awareness of cyclists and promoting mutual respect for both cyclists and motorists. There are well-recognised health, financial and envirnmental benefits that come from cycling, but safety fears are a major factor in discouraging many people from cycling."

If you think you would like to assist with such initiatives and in getting more people safely on their bikes, perhaps you would like to come to a meeting we are having at lunchtime next Wednesday

Bld 20 Lecture Theatre 4
12:30 - 1:30 Weds 11th March
A light lunch will be provided c/o the UOW Environment and Sustainability Initiative
RSVP Monday 9th

Items for the agenda:
Overview of UOW situation and some cycling related issues - short presentation
Decision on formation of UOW Bug
Format & timing of meetings/communications
A quick review and discussion on some more pressing and timely issues

We only have an hour, so we won't be able to go into each item in great detail, but if we can collect ideas, decide on a way forward and means for communication it'll be a good start.

Please let me know if you would like to come along.

If you can't make it but would like to be involved in future activities drop me an email anyway

Regards
