2011 Tonkin's BI and Analytics Conference - Presented by Robert Sim

Robert Sim from the PIU team recently gave a presentation on the deployment of BI and Analytics at the Tonkin's BI and Analytics Conference in Sydney. 

Whilst a very broad topic Robert focused on the user engagement and change management process of BI deployment. On behalf of the PIU team, he shared the strategies used at UOW to ensure effective change management practices and integration into existing corporate governance structures. In addition to this the UOW focus on continuous improvement and ongoing user engagement was highlighted. In particular it was noted that user engagement was integrated into the way UOW manages its environment including automated reporting off the BI audit package.

2011 Gartner Business Intelligence (BI) Excellence Award - Presented by Ellenie Petrou

In March 2011 Performance Indicator approach at UOW was voted a finalist in the 2011 Gartner Business Intelligence (BI) Excellence Award for Asia Pacific.

Gartner is a world wide global technology research and advisory firm (www.gartner.com), founded in 1979, Gartner is headquartered in the U.S.A., and has 1,200 research analysts and consultants in 85 countries and has 11,000 organisations as clients. The Business Intelligence Excellence Award recognises and rewards the most successful recent BI implementations by end-user organizations.

UOW’s implementation was shortlisted in the top 3 from the Asia Pacific region and only narrowly missed out on the top prize.The award criteria recognises that people, processes and technologies need to be integrated and aligned to take a more strategic approach to business intelligence (BI). In discussions with the judges it was UOW’s engagement of their user base in projects and on an ongoing basis that was one of the key differentiating factors of our application.

AAIR Conference Presentation - Presented by Holly Zhu

Holly Zhu from the PIP team recently gave a presentation on Data Warehousing at the 2009 Australian Association for Institution Research (AAIR) Data Warehouse Special Interest Group (SIG) Conference in Brisbane. 

Holly’s presentation was about the iterative data warehouse development at University of Wollongong. On behalf of the PIP team, she shared the effective and efficient data warehouse development methodology with all the other Universities in Australia and New Zealand, and showcased the newly delivered Institutional Attrition Project which developed purely based on the methodology. The innovative methodology and the interesting presentation generated great interests of the conference attendees towards the Data Warehousing area in the university.
