Opportunities (Scientists/Engineers)

The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science (ACES) brings together some of the foremost researchers in chemistry, materials science, physics, biology and mathematics in Australia to explore, develop and exploit a wide range of new electromaterials.

The movement of charges in bulk materials is a relatively well understood phenomenon at the macroscopic level. However, much of this fundamental understanding breaks down as the material takes on nanodimensions. Non-conductors can become conductors, inert materials become active and the energetics of charge transfer processes change. The focus is on nanodimensional electromaterials to exploit the intrinsic efficiency of charge transport processes at the nano level, with additional skills especially in the areas of materials synthesis and characterisation added to the team.

The Centre draws its core expertise from its research partners: the University of Wollongong, Monash University, the Bionic Ear Institute and St Vincent’s Health. We are now seeking to appoint talented individuals, who are scientists or engineers, to positions at the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute (University of Wollongong).

The successful applicants will also be expected to assist in day to day supervision of graduate students and more junior research staff.

Biomaterials position

Fixed Term Full Time Fellowships (2.5 years)
Quote Ref No: 23076

Closing date: 20 July 2008

To carry out research on the synthesis and characterisation of biomaterials. Particular emphasis will be on the development of biocompatible/biodegradable nanostructured conducting materials.

Candidates must address the Selection Criteria specified in the respective Position Descriptions for your application to be considered. Click here for the detailed job advertisement and to download a position description with the selection criteria.

For further information regarding the fixed term positions, please contact Professor Gordon Wallace, Executive Research Director of ACES, on (02) 4221 3127 or gwallace@uow.edu.au Appointment is based on merit. As women are under-represented in academic positions, suitably qualified women are encouraged to apply.

Ink Jet position

Fixed Term Full Time Fellowships (2 years)
Quote Ref No: 23077

Closing date: 20 July 2008

To carry out research on inkjet printing of devices. The researcher will contribute to the research in developing novel bio-structures for sensors, bio-fuel cells and controlled drug release; therefore biomaterials experience would be a distinct advantage.

Candidates must address the Selection Criteria specified in the respective Position Descriptions for your application to be considered. Click here for the detailed job advertisement and to download a position description with the selection criteria.
