Director of IPRI and ARC centre of Excellence - Electromaterials Science
Professor Gordon Wallace is Director of the IPRI. He established the Intelligent Polymer Research Group in 1988, which became the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute in 1995, after taking up a lectureship at the University of Wollongong (1986). The ARC centre of Excellence - Electromaterials Science has been established and will begin science and research in January 2006.
Chief Operating Officer of ARC centre of Excellence - Electromaterials Science
Associate Professor
Chee Too has worked with the Intelligent Polymer Research Group since 1990 and his current research area involves energy conversion and storage
Assistant Director of IPRI
Associate Professor Peter Innis is responsible for activities in the areas of polymer processing, polymer photochemistry and nanomaterials.
Senior Researchers
Dr Jun Chen has research interests in the preparation of nanostructured electromaterials, especially carbon nanotube based 3D architectures, and in fuel cell applications, including cell design and catalytic electrodes.
Dr Michael Higgins main interest and research has focused on the application of AFM to study the nanomechanical properties of biological systems, including living cells, model lipid membranes, single ligand-receptor interactions, individual protein unfolding, fundamental surface-force interactions, as well as being involved in AFM instrument development.
Dr Dan Li has research interests in creating novel nanostructures for applications in energy storage / conversion, sensors and biological fields.
Professor Leon Kane-Maguire. Leon has a particular interest in optically active polymers.
Dr Andrew Minett has research interests in nanomaterial interactions and biomolecular incorporation protocols that will provide a foundation for future bioelectronic devices.
Professor
David Officer research interests are to develop functional material and nanomaterial systems. This includes the development and application of functionalised conducting polymers and carbon nanotubes, and an internationally recognised program on the synthesis and use of porphyrins (artificial chlorophyll) in solar cells, which produced the best porphyrin-based solar cells in the world.
Dr Marc in het Panhuis research focuses on synthesis, characterisation and applications of composite materials with enhanced properties. These composite materials are fabricated using surface active molecules and/or polymers.
Professor
William Price is Head of the Chemistry Department. His research interests include factors influencing transport across conducting polymer membranes.
Associate Professor
Steven Ralph is a Senior Lecturer in the Chemistry Department. He carries out research in the area of new metal complexing polymers and membrane separations with IPRI.
Professor Geoffrey Spinks is a Lecturer in Engineering and has research interests in actuators and mechanical properties of polymers
