A/Prof Gordon Waitt awarded Macdonald Holmes Medal

Congratulations to Associate Professor Gordon Waitt from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences who was recently awarded the Macdonald Holmes Medal. This medal is presented biennially by The Geographical Society of New South Wales and The Geography Teachers Association of New South Wales to a person deemed to have made a distinguished contribution in the field of geographical education in Australia.
Dr. Zenobia Jacobs awarded Sir Nicholas Shackleton Medal
Congratulations to Dr. Zenobia Jacobs, Senior Research Fellow in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, who was recently awarded the 2nd Sir Nicholas Shackleton Medal for outstanding young Quaternary scientists. The International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA) established the medal in recognition of the many contributions of Nick Shackleton, a giant in the field of Quaternary science.
Dr. Jacobs has made significant methodological advances in single-grain optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating, and applied her results to a range of topics. These include understanding the role of ecological change in the lives of our earliest ancestors in Africa and the effect of humans on the native biota of newly colonised lands, such as megafaunal extinctions in Australia.
