The UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG CONOCOPHILLIPS Science Experience

The Science Experience is a fun three days of activities for students entering Year 10 held at Universities around Australia. 

Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 July 2013

Sessions include Cool Physics: Measuring the temperature of absolute zero, Chemistry Creations: An incredible concoction of chemical combinations, and a field trip to the Science Centre.

3. How do I get to the University of Wollongong?

Travelling to the University is easy. For the best modes and routes of transport, go to the Getting to UOW website: http://www.uow.edu.au/transport/index.html.

4. Where can I find a map of the University of Wollongong campus?

5. Where do I get dropped of and picked up from each day?

Each morning, we will meet in the foyer of Building 41 (near the rock collection). The free bus from North Wollongong train station (Bus 9) can drop students off at Building 41. Parents and guardians can easily drop off and pick up from the northern entrance of Building 41 (near URAC).

6. What time do I arrive and leave each day?

Aim to arrive each day at least 15 minutes before the day commences:

Wednesday 10th July

Registration at 9am (Building 41 - near the rock collection)

Finish at 4pm (Building 41)

Thursday 11th July

Meet at 9am (Building 41)

Finish at 6pm (Science Centre - Innovation Campus)

Friday 12th July

Meet at 9am (Building 41)

Farewell Afternoon Tea from 3-3.30pm (parents welcome)

7. Where can my parents park on campus?

Parking on campus is separated into Ticket (general entry) and Permit (primarily Staff) Parking. For Ticket Parking, please refer to the Parking@UOW website: http://www.uow.edu.au/parking/index.html.

8. What if I arrive late?

If you arrive late, please stay at the Building 41 Foyer and call the Faculty of Science on 4221 3530 to be collected and taken to your scheduled session for that time.

9. What if I need to leave early?

A roll is taken each day before we start any activity as we need to know your whereabouts whilst you are in our duty of care. If you need to leave early, speak with a team member on the morning you need to leave. You should also bring a note from your parent or guardian informing of this.

10. What should I wear?

Clothing suitable for spending time in the laboratories - closed toed shows, preferably cotton clothing (i.e. jeans and long sleeved cotton shirt). Long hair should be tied back. Bring a hat.

11. What should I bring?

Pen, notepad, bottle of water, money (for bus/train/phone etc), hat, sunscreen and a camera if you would like to take photos. If you wish to bring a mobile phone, please ensure that it is turned off or silent during sessions.

12. Lunch:

A BBQ lunch will be provided on Thursday. Please bring your lunch on Wednesday and Friday and a snack and drink every day. There will also be time to purchase lunch on campus if you like. Please check the program regarding meal times.

13. What do I do if I get lost on campus?

Ask for directions back to Building 41. Call the Faculty of Science on 4221 3530 so someone can collect you.
