Welcome to the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences, University of Wollongong. The School is one of the most research active academic units in Australia for the Earth and Environmental Sciences. Research

Members of the School are actively involved in a diverse range of research areas in the Earth & Environmental Sciences, as members of GeoQuEST Research Centre, AUSCCER and/or CAS.

  • Long-term environmental changes during the past 2.6 million years
  • Coastal and marine environmental ecology, geology and geochemistry
  • Quaternary geochronology
  • Human interactions with the environment, past and present
  • Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing
  • Environmental remediation
  • Social, Cultural and Economic Geography
  • Archaeology and archaeological science

The School has a long-standing record of research support in these areas funded from National Competitive Grant Schemes and other funding sources. 

Postgraduate

We offer PhD and Masters research programs across all the discipline areas within the School.

A range of Coursework masters degrees, such as Master of Environmental Science.

Undergraduate

We offer the following flexible majors within the Bachelor of Science degree:  Human Geography, Physical Geography, Geology, Geosciences and the following prescribed majors:  Environment, Land and Heritage Management.

In addition, the School is a major contributor to the degrees of Bachelor of Environmental Science and Bachelor of Marine Science.

PESA NSW is offering student study grants of $1500 to students studying in 3rd year or honours, Masters or a PhD in the Geoscience field. Students who are involved in a research project which emphasises petroleum or coal seam methane exploration are eligible to apply.
