Geochemistry Laboratories

Overview

During 1997, the School of Geosciences brought into operation a suite of seven interconnected laboratories with state-of-the-art ultra clean-room facilities that incorporate positive-pressure air filtration.

The laboratory contains a number of major instruments which are supported by ancillary equipment including laminar-flow work stations, ultra-high purity water dispenser, four figure analytical balance and seven-figure micro balance, centrifuge, and drying ovens.

The funding for the mass spectrometer was provided by the Australian Research Council (RIEF Grant), the University of Wollongong, The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, The Australian National University, and the CSIRO Division of Fisheries.

The geochemical laboratories are under the direction of Professor Allan Chivas. The laboratory offers its services for both collaborative research and commercial analysis to interested persons
