GIS for the Coastal Zone: Spatial Data, Modelling and Management

Wollongong and Sydney
New South Wales, Australia
Wednesday 12th to Sunday 16th July 2006

Post-Conference Fieldtrip

Wollongong is situated on the scenic South Coast of New South Wales 60 km south of Sydney. The South Coast consists of a rocky embayed coast with a series of spectacular beaches and a range of different estuary types.

Minamurra Estuary

The post-conference fieldtrip, on 16 July 2006, immediately following CoastGIS 2006, offers delegates the opportunity to explore the coast between Wollongong and Jervis Bay. Delegates will travel by coach along the coast, visiting some of the beautiful beaches and estuaries, such as Lake Illawarra, Minnamurra Estuary and the mouth of the Shoalhaven River.

Werri Platform

The fieldtrip includes a cruise on the Shoalhaven River and a fish and chips lunch.

The fieldtrip culminates in the spectacular white sands of Jervis Bay and the unique flora and fauna of the national parks that abut Jervis Bay. The fieldtrip will return in time to connect with rail links to Sydney.
