Plant species most affected by bitou bush

Following extensive surveys in both fore and hind dune communities along the coast we have identified many species which occur less frequently or in lower abundance in bitou-invaded and in managed areas.

These species can be considered to be ‘at risk’ and should be included in replanting efforts and monitored carefully to ensure regeneration. We identify those species which are significantly different from those which show a similar trend and we distinguish effects of management due to intensive work by volunteers from effects due to extensive aerial spraying in fore dunes.
