Biotechnology Graduates

What do Bachelor of Biotechnology graduates think of the course?

Paula Zylstra became a PhD researcher in collaboration with the John Curtin School of Medical Research: " The degree was well designed, with interesting subjects and has practical applications to future research opportunities. The staff made it a fun degree."

Daniel Skylas became a research assistant at the University of Wollongong: "A satisfying degree. It gave me a solid background in both the theoretical and practical sides of biotechnology. Apart from that I also made new friends with both staff and students."

Wendy Simpson went on to study medicine: "A terrific course which emphasised the practical skills as well as the theory of biotechnology. I learnt a lot and enjoyed the course."

Simon Cook became a research assistant at the Sydney Dental Hospital: "An excellent insight into biotechnology. I learned a lot about the theory and practice I now use at work. And it was a lot of fun too!"

Jason McArthur became a PhD researcher in collaboration with the vaccine company Cyanamid Websters: "The small class sizes in the degree allowed many strong friendships to develop and promoted a friendly rivalry which brought out the best in everyone. A great base from which to launch your international career in the sunrise industry of Biotechnology."

Leanne Pease became a clinical trial coordinator for the biotechnology company Novogen Ltd: "The Bachelor of Biotechnology equiped me with skills such as scientific writing, being adaptable in a laboratory situation, people management and the importance of being able to communicate with fellow scientific researchers. I use these skills everyday in the competitive Biotechnology Research and Development environment."

Lynn Sydney became a science teacher: "My Bachelor of Biotechnology degree has given me a real edge as a science teacher. I have quite an in-depth knowledge about current, exciting developments in science that are relevant to kids today which will shape their future. The Bachelor of Biotechnology stresses real life technologies and is an extremely applicable, practical degree. "

Jodie Wilton became a PhD researcher at NSW Agriculture "A challenging but enjoyable degree providing the skills and confidence to enter the world of biotechnology".

Dr. Harry Rothenfluh of the John Curtin School of Medical Research: "In terms of graduates who find employment in science or post-graduate research scholarships, the University of Wollongong Bachelor of Biotechnology degree has a remarkable track record"

Dr. Parry Monckton , Viral Research Manager of the vaccine company Cyanamid Websters: "University of Wollongong Biotechnology students have undertaken short research programs in our Research and Development Division. The students have been of a high calibre having had an excellent grounding in the molecular aspects of microbiology allowing them to complete short projects in specific aspects of vaccine development, which we could not otherwise have achieved."

Professor Neil Willetts , "The Bachelor of Biotechnology at the University of Wollongong provides excellent training in this exciting and expanding area, as the basis for either more specialised postgraduate studies or a research position in one of the many academic or company laboratories utilising this technology."
