Degrees for clever science students
The Advanced Science program at the University of Wollongong is designed for students who excel in science. This program offers many advantages over conventional degree programs including:
Flexibility - individually tailored programs
Develop your own study program to meet your own interests and requirements. The flexible structure of the Bachelor of Science facilitates changes of direction as late as the beginning of third year with no loss of credit or time. Many basic science subjects are common to all programs allowing you time for a final decision.
Join a research team
Work with some of Australia's leading researchers - special research projects are available from second year. Advanced Science students are currently working with staff researchers on such projects as:
- Designing new antibiotics and cancer treatments
- Development of new materials for chemical and biological sensors
- UV-radiation and protective pigments in Antarctic moss species
- Signatures of global environmental change, landscape evolution and the impact of our population on Australia
Opportunities exist for:
- Research Assistantships (get paid to work alongside leading researchers on their research grants)
- Vacation scholarships (get paid to work over Summer)
- Study at an overseas university
- Honours projects with an external organisation, providing a link with a potential employer
Degrees include:
- Bachelor of Science Advanced majoring in one (or two) of the following:
Biological Sciences
Chemistry
Environment
Geology
Geosciences
Human Geography
Land and Heritage Management
Physical Geography
or you can complete one of the following prescribed courses
- Bachelor of Conservation Biology Advanced
- Bachelor of Environmental Science Advanced
- Bacehlor of Marine Science Advanced
- Bachelor of Medical Biotechnology Advanced
- Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry Advanced
- Bachelor of Nanotechnology Advanced
- International Bachelor of Science (by written application & interview)
Entry requirements: a NSW HSC ATAR of at least 95 (or equivalent)
