Course Structure: | Students take 6 coursework subjects comprising research training and advanced management theory and application. On successful completion of their coursework, students work with supervisors to complete a thesis. |
Application Process | Please contact the potential supervisors directly to discuss their availability and willingness to supervise you and formulate a more in depth 2000 word proposal for formal application to a higher research degree. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact the DBA Co-ordinator, Professor John Glynn to outline their proposed research area. If the research discipline fits with the School’s staff expertise, you will be encouraged to submit an online application. Applications must be accompanied by a 2,000 word research proposal which should outline the main focus of the applicant's research interest, a commentary on important and recent literature in this area, and a discussion of why this is an important area of research. All proposals must acknowledge sources correctly. Proposals may be checked using a plagiarism checking system. DBA Applications must provide an outline of professional experience and demonstrate an ability to access appropriate industry sectors to meet research requirements. Applicants will also be required to attend an interview; face to face for local applicants or via telephone conference. The interview process is designed to ensure that you understand the commitment you will have to make in order to complete your doctorate, and that we are satisfied that you have the scholarly aptitude and determination to succeed as a doctoral candidate. |
The DBA is an advanced postgraduate research degree that focuses on professional business practice, providing experienced managers with research skills that can be applied to issues of organisational leadership. The course is designed to provide a framework that will enable participants to expand their knowledge in one or more business areas, drawing on the disciplinary expertise of faculties across campus. The course is designed to build on the existing strengths of the participants and provide a formal educational opportunity for them to develop and apply business research skills, enhance their understanding of contemporary management theories, and gain a competitive advantage in business.
University of Wollongong and federal government policy is to award all Domestic Higher Degree Research (including DBA) students an RTS place (exempt from tuition fees).
