HDR Student Funding Policy
(Conference and Other*)

Sydney Business School allows up to $3,500 per Higher Degree Research (HDR) student candidature for conference and other thesis-related funding.  This is significantly higher than most other Faculties and will be allocated as a reward for high performance and effort.  All student papers must include their supervisor's name and all conferences should ideally be refereed and have a doctoral colloquium as part of the program.  All Funding Applications (Conference, Editing and Other) must be directed to the relevant Co-ordinator (Dr Mark Rix - PhD, Dr Grace McCarthy - DBA/MBR), in the first instance and must be based on a joint submission by the supervisor and the student.  A Committee of three (Dr Grace McCarthy, Dr Nelson Perera and Dr Mark Rix) will meet on a quarterly basis (dates TBA) to assess Funding Applications.  In all cases, applications from high performing students only will be considered.

There will normally be no conference funding for research students during their first year of study (or Full Time Equivalent).  Applications may be submitted for attendance at a domestic conference in year two and either another domestic or international conference in year three (providing that the candidate is approaching completion).

*Other refers to 'limited competitive funding for editing, field work or software'.
