Greenhouse Gases from Fires and Farming

Prof. David Griffith and Dr Clare Murphy

Wednesday 17th August (5:30pm-6:30pm)
Five Islands Brewery - All Welcome!
RSVP: vwallace@uow.edu.au

The concentrations of many greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are increasing. It is well known that the burning of fossil fuels is a major contributor to these increases but agriculture and vegetation fires (both natural and man-made) also play a significant role. In this talk we will present our research into emissions of greenhouse gases and other atmospheric pollutants from bushfires and agriculture in Australia.
Making measurements in the field in the presence of either large flames or large animals presents interesting challenges! In addition to presenting some of the results of our research, we hope to convey an idea of the fun and frustrations that accompany such work.
