Lori LockyerRuben's Wiki - Today's educational opportunity? Tomorrow's obsolescence?

A/Prof. Lori Lockyer
Faculty of Education, UOW

Wednesday 21st October  |  5:30-6:30 pm
At the Five Islands Brewery - All Welcome!

Ah, school day memories of the blue smudge from the mimeographed stencils, the sound of the ‘ting’ that indicated it was time to advance the film strip, or being very advanced to code an animation on the Commodore 64 or Macintosh Classic.  Those revolutionary technologies are now landfill - at best maybe converted to a fish tank.

Today’s education revolution – interactive whiteboards, a laptop for everyone, wikis, blogs... How do these technologies support teaching and learning opportunities in schools?  Lori will discuss the changing nature of technologies in the school environment and what the research tells us about what they mean for teaching and learning in our schools.

Associate Professor Lori Lockyer is Associate Dean (Research & Graduate) in the Faculty of Education.  Lori has been researching educational technologies for more than a decade.  Some of her recent projects in the primary and secondary school settings have investigated teachers’ use of interactive whiteboards and students’ production of digital video news.
