Real Life CSI and Forensic Science

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) and forensic science have been popularised through tv shows such as CSI (Miami), MIT (spin-off from The Bill) and some may even remember, Quincy. Come along and learn how real practitioners and researchers use CSI and forensic science to solve real crimes.

Detective Sergeant Brian Oliver, South East Zone Forensic Services, NSW Police will explain:

  • the steps involved in CSI
  • how real-life CSI differs from the tv shows
  • how the Police analyse evidence
  • case studies

Dr James Wallman, Lecturer at the University of Wollongong's School of Biological Sciences, will explain how insects can help solve crime:

  • what is forensic entomology?
  • how can insects indicate time of death?
  • what other forensic information can insects provide?
  • case studies

PS: This will be St Patrick's Day so don't forget to wear green!

Where: Five Islands Brewery, Eastern end of the WIN Entertainment Centre (Cnr Harbour and Crown Streets) Wollongong 2500.
