General Categories

As part of the Research Information System and in an attempt to capture other outputs that do not fit the DEST or UOW Additional Publication Categories, a series of 'general' categories have been established. These categories build on the others in attempting to extend the range of material that may included.

Book – General

Category: P1

This refers to books which must be written solely by the author.

Include:

  • Textbooks aimed at secondary, primary or pre-school students
  • Books in other languages
  • Further editions of previously published books which do not involve substantial additions or revisions
  • Pamphlet – article printed as a small booklet
  • Manual or guidebook

Book Chapter – General

Category: P2

This refers to chapters within a larger work.

Include:

  • Chapters in textbooks
  • Entries in reference works, dictionaries, encyclopedias that do not meet the category of Additional UOW Category D – Major Review
  • Short stories or poems in anthologies
  • Revisions of chapters in edited books
  • Brief entry in exhibition catalogue

Journal Article – General

Category: P3

This refers to articles of a non-research but professional nature in non-scholarly journals, magazines and newspapers.

Include:

  • Article in popular magazine
  • Letters to the editor
  • Editorials
  • Articles/reviews/opinion pieces in newspapers

Design – General

Category: P4

This refers to design work falling outside the J categories for design.

Include:

  • Book cover designs
  • Graphic design for web sites

Presentations – General

Category: P5

This refers to presentations and performances which do not fit the other categories

Include:

  • Presentations at workshops, seminars which do not include a published paper
  • Presentations at festivals, readings, talks
  • Guest performances with orchestras, ensembles
  • Performances which have not been recorded for publication or sale

Conference Publication – General

Category: P6

This refers to conference publications which may not be research based in nature and do not fit the other categories.

Include:

  • Publications from conferences or seminars which were not scholarly in nature and aimed at academics
  • Publications from conferences such as public interest seminars

Courseware – General

Category : P7

This refers to courseware or software products which are produced and only used in-house and do not meet the commercial requirements of Category G – Computer Software.
