Ethics approval is only for the protocol submitted for review. If you want to change your research you must request approval from the HREC before making the change. The details of the proposed changes should be submitted in writing to the HREC. Most changes will be reviewed by the Executive Committee, not the full meeting of the HREC, and can be submitted at any time.
